Two women killed, infant critically injured in Winnetka crash

Two female pedestrians were killed and an infant was critically injured when a car struck them Friday evening in north suburban Winnetka, authorities said.

What we know:

The crash happened around 6 p.m. on Church Road near Meadow Road, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

The car was traveling south on Church Road when it hit the two female pedestrians and the infant, who was in a stroller.

The driver may have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash and authorities said there was "no indication of foul play."

"I live very close and heard the crash. I knew something was up," a neighbor said.

One of the women died at the scene. The other was taken to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, authorities said. The infant was listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were also taken to a hospital with injuries that were non-life-threatening, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified one of the victims as Sediqeh Samadi, 37. The other woman had not been identified as of Saturday evening.

Neighbors said the pedestrians who died in the crash were a mother and daughter. They said the mother was visiting from Iran and helping babysit her grandson, who is now in critical condition.

What we don't know:

It's unclear what caused the crash, and police did not say whether any charges were pending.
